Tailbone Pain (Coccydynia)

Tailbone pain, also called coccydynia, happens when the tailbone becomes irritated or injured. This can be caused by a fall, repeated pressure, or overuse during activity.

  • Pain at the tailbone
  • Tenderness to touch
  • Pain when sitting
  • Pain when standing up
  • Discomfort with movement
  • Pain at the bottom of the spine
  • Pain when sitting or getting up
  • A sore or aching feeling in one spot
  • Pain that gets worse with pressure
  • Falling onto the butt
  • Repeated pressure from sitting
  • Direct impact during sports
  • Overuse or irritation
  • Is the pain at the very bottom of your spine?
  • Does sitting make the pain worse?
  • Did it start after a fall or pressure?
  • Is the area tender when touched?
  • Does it hurt when getting up from sitting?

  • Severe or worsening pain
  • Inability to sit or move

  • Difficulty walking
  • Gradually return to activity
  • Avoid prolonged sitting
  • Use proper support when sitting
  • Allow time for healing
  • Avoid repeated pressure
