Proximal Humerus Fracture

A proximal humerus fracture is a break in the upper part of the humerus near the shoulder joint. It commonly occurs after a fall or direct impact and can affect shoulder movement and stability.

  • Severe shoulder pain
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Difficulty moving the arm
  • Shoulder tenderness
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Visible deformity in severe cases
  • Sharp pain immediately after injury
  • Pain that worsens with movement
  • Throbbing shoulder pain
  • Difficulty lifting the arm
  • Shoulder feels weak or unstable
  • Pain when touching the injured area
  • Falls onto the shoulder or outstretched arm
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Sports injuries
  • Direct blow to the shoulder
  • Osteoporosis
  • High-impact trauma
  • Pain immediately after an injury
  • Difficulty or inability to lift the arm
  • Swelling and bruising around the shoulder
  • Pain with any shoulder movement
  • Tenderness over the upper arm

  • Visible shoulder deformity
  • Bone protruding through the skin
  • Loss of sensation in the arm or hand
  • Cold or blue hand
  • Severe swelling
  • Unable to move the arm after injury
  • Many fractures heal without surgery
  • Wear the sling as directed
  • Begin physical therapy when recommended
  • Gradually restore shoulder motion and strength
  • Avoid heavy lifting until fully healed
  • Follow up with repeat imaging if instructed
